I am one of life’s great optimists. Every month and season of the year there is something to look forward to - as it is with the end of summer and approaching autumn. We are fortunate enough to have a home 30 minutes drive from the New Forest. After the recent full moon and rains there was a fair chance of lots of wild mushrooms appearing. There are 3 species in particular that you want to find: porcini, hedgehogs and chanterelles. Up at 7 in the morning to find them before the other collectors, we found the following haul:
There is indeed something very magical about walking through a forest very early in the morning. Dinner in the evening was porcini lasagne with Siro Pacenti Brunello 2006. Stunning. I love their Brunellos and have recently started to collect them. Beautiful sweet fruit with wild herbs (97). Happy days.
A little while back, we had some fabulous wild mushroom cards produced to help keen collectors to find the best nature has to offer. We have a few packs left so if you would like some please just email [email protected] and we will send you a pack out.
