Run, Winers, Run!

Three few years ago, a group of keen runners from BI travelled to Bordeaux to take on the famous Marathon du Médoc. This year, a fresh group of athletes (ahem) from BI are taking on a new wine-themed run – The Surrey Bacchus Half-Marathon, which takes place through the vineyards of Denbies, around Dorking and the picturesque North Downs. Not only is it a little closer to home, the climate should be a little more acceptable (it topped 40°C during the Médoc Marathon!).

The team is a combination of ages and experiences, and all have been training hard for what promises to be an extremely challenging run – featuring some stunning scenery and at least one dramatic climb; with over 1100ft of elevation gain across the 13.1 miles, it will be a test for both the legs and the mind. At least the last 2 miles or so is pretty much all downhill (you can tell we are trying to reassure ourselves).

Everybody involved will be giving it their all in aid of two fantastic charities: The Benevolent; The Drinks Industry Charity, and The Sick Children's Trust. The Benevolent’s mission is to help colleagues from the drinks trade facing serious medical or financial hardship or any other workplace or home difficulties. The Sick Children's Trust provide free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation for families with sick children in hospital.

Our aim is to raise £2000 for these charities and we are over 30% of the way there (at time of writing) so still plenty more to go. Click on the image above or sponsor the BI team here.

Your generous support is hugely appreciated.
