Sunday Funday

by Dasha Tinkova (Private Sales)

Usually a Sunday night is the ultimate night in watching TV (especially seeing as the X Factor live shows are currently on) but last Sunday we decided to round up a few of us and go to HIX in Soho.

We started the night in the bar downstairs, making our way through the cocktail list being sure to try as many of them as possible. Turns out that simply wasn’t possible, as the list seems never ending, and the bar men are able to make you a cocktail you will love just from understanding that you love dark rum. Dangerous.

We then went upstairs and started our night with a bottle of Meursault from no less than Leroy – a mere 1969.

We had it decanted and went straight into it. It was divine - golden, a honey nose, surprisingly sweetly fruited, but with really fat intensity. 97pts.

We had this bottle with our starters - smoked salmon and Meursault really do go very well together, I’ve learnt.

Our main was accompanied by a bottle from DRC, a great La Tache 1995. This was the ultimate catch-all wine: whilst some had halibut and some had steak, and it was actually perfect with both variations of food. After all, it is a DRC...

The wine was concentrated, yet delicate and refreshing, with intense raspberry and strawberry fruit and a good dose of Asian spice to it. 96+pts.

As we continued enjoying our main, we opened the last, but for sure not least, bottle of wine - a true unicorn bottle of Cros Parantoux 1990 by Rouget. This was such a complex wine, with incredible depth and an amazingly long finish that seemed to never end. A fantastic wine that justifies its cult reputation. I was in no doubt that this was a perfect 100/100. Surprisingly, or maybe not, it blew the La Tache away... and that is saying something.

If you drink on a Sunday night, this is the way to do it....
