Muga Gran Reserva Prado Enea 2011
BI are honoured to be the first in the UK to offer one of the bargains of the year - the absolutely delicious new 2011 release of Muga’s flagship Rioja, Prado Enea.
The Rioja regulatory body rated 2011 as one of the best vintages of the last 30 years, officially rating it as ‘excellent’ – a score given to just eight vintages since 1981; and James Suckling gave this 2011 an excellent 96 point rating, falling for the charms of its ‘silky tannins’and ‘effortless length’.
We were lucky enough to try this late last year (and again, last night, at dinner with the Muga brothers) and it’s absolutely electric. The qualities that the fruit gains from the very high, cool vineyard that forms this superstar are so clear to see here; it is generous and rich but with true grace, balance, and confidence. So, thanks to our close relationship with the Muga family we bought all that we could immediately upon tasting, particularly as they only make the Prado in the best years (and they didn’t bottle any 2007, 2008, 2012, or 2013!).
This is truly one of the great wine trade inside tips which will drink wonderfully now and will also thoroughly reward ageing for 10-20 years plus. And, with the lesser 1994 trading at almost 3 times the price, it makes it an even finer prospect.
A traditionally-styled Gran Reserva Rioja at its very finest, offering amazing value and guaranteeing a knock-out glass every time, so let me know what you’d like to tuck away…

Tasting Notes and Scores
A very complex wine with dried cherries, fresh earth and spice and a nutty edge with tobacco and fresh leather. The palate is exceptionally fresh, powerful and refined. A bright heart of cherries and blueberries and long, silky tannins. Effortless length. Drink or hold. - jamessuckling.com
