The United States is the 4th largest wine-producing country in the world. Across this large expanse, wine is produced throughout, with the most important regions being California, Washington, Oregon and New York. The country is famous for its New World style wines – big and fruity Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots from fantastic producers like Robert Mondavi, but this is by no means an exhaustive description of the wines that can be found here. With many top producers to choose from, we stock many of the best from across the United States, including Dominus, Opus One, Shafer, Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle.

California is by far the most important state for wine production and alone produces around 90% of the country’s total, which was estimated at a total of 28 million hectolitres in 2013. Its vastly varying climate and terroir provides a variety of distinct wines and premium styles from elegant Pinot Noirs to rich, powerful Cabernets. Home to the largest array of top US wineries, the most important regions are Napa Valley, Russian River Valley and Sonoma County.

Oregon’s international reputation is a relatively recent development, which is not surprising considering its makeup of small boutique wineries with low production levels. In this region quality trumps quantity, with top producers such as Drouhin and Cristom shining through.
