The most Northern of all classified Growths in the Medoc, Chateau Calon Ségur lies North West of the village of St Estèphe and is run by the formidable Madame Gasqueton, whose family has owned the chateau for a century. The previous owner – the Marquis de Segur – also owned Lafite and Latour, but once declared "My heart belongs to Calon", hence the distinctive heart on the label of this Chateau's bottling.
Calon Segur's 74-hectare vineyards are made up of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc and its soils are a mixture of gravel, sand and limestone. Classified as a third growth property, Calon Segur possesses one of the most envied terroirs in Bordeaux. Since the mid 1990s, this chateau has been producing wines of excellent quality and always good value, with notable successes in 2000, 2003, and 2005.
