Delas

Background

Established in 1836, the family firm of Delas Freres maintained its independence until 1978 when it was purchased by the Champagne house Deutz, which was, in turn, purchased by Roederer in 1993. Until the appointment of Jacques Grange in 1997, however, the wines of Delas have been in for a lot of criticism. Infact, it is fair to say that the winemaking skills of Jacques Grange have turned Delas from a great underperformer to one of the Rhone's greatest producers.

Investments and improvements in the winery, coupled with Grange's approach in both the vineyard and cellar, has yielded great results. While their plot at les Bessards remains the jewel in the Delas crown; it is the source of their flagship wine Hermitage les Bessards as well as the red and white Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette, their plots or holdings in Cote Rotie, Condrieu and Crozes-Hermitage, are also the source of some fantastic wines.
