Gaja, Angelo

Background

Angelo Gaja cut a swathe through Piedmont in the early '60s and hasn't stopped since. He has revolutionized the perception of Barbaresco and its more renowned sibling, Barolo.

By cutting yields, using small barriques, and bottling individual vineyard plots as single crus - Sori San Lorenzo, Sori Tildin, Costa Russi in Barbaresco – Sperss and Conteisa in Barolo, Angelo Gaja set his stall out on the international stage to compete with the very best wines in the world.

Where some may criticize his perceived arrogance, it is impossible to fault Angelo Gaja for his indefatigable spirit and the marked influence he has had on up and coming wine makers around the world as well as on the burgeoning modern Italian wine scene.
