Isle of Jura

The Isle of Jura off the West Coast of Scotland is for a crow only 60 miles from Glasgow but somehow, no matter where you travel from, it takes the rest of us a day to get there.

It is so remote that George Orwell described Jura as 'the most un-get-at-able place', when he retreated there whilst struggling to write 1984. In 1963 the derelict Island-distillery was rebuilt. Ever since then the incredibly tall stills have produced a vast breadth of whisky styles, from sweet and mellow to rich and smoky.
