Leoville Barton

Background

Leoville Barton is a perennial favourite of the British wine drinker. Ever dependable, ever popular, Anthony Barton's reliable workhorse claret has attracted a committed following that buys the wine year in and year out. Not surprising either when one gets to know the quality of this St. Julien.

Leoville Barton produces a generous 20,000 cases per year, just as well, given its popularity. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), with Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) making up the rest. Typically, the wine is traditional in style, backward in its youth and very long lived. In addition to its consistent high quality, these are often among the very best value wines in Bordeaux, both en primeur and in the secondary market.
