Tasting Notes and Scores

Wine Spectator

Lush and fruity, with apple compote, pear tart and lemon curd flavors that show fine balance and a lilting structure. Offers jasmine and honeysuckle notes midpalate, with a light, creamy finish. Suave and elegant. Drink now through 2035. 168 cases imported. (KM)

An expression of very ripe blackcurrant is tastefully complemented by a fine savoury note. Deliciously juicy and with a deft touch of residual sugar, the Kirschheck must be idiosyncratic in its pronounced yet refined expression of those highly aromatic berries. Tasting notes like ‘Ribena’ and ‘blackcurrant pure’ seem to reflect the inaptitude of the taster to come up with more sophisticated terms, but if, in a Kenny Everettish way, you imagine it all done in the best possible taste, you’ll get a fair idea of what this Spätlese is all about.

A subtle honeysuckle aroma blends with hyacinth and lime on the nose. Polished peachy fruit and a refined minerality drift across the palate. Delicate and eminently drinkable. (Joel B. Payne)
