Canalicchio di Sopra - Brunello di Montalcino 1997
Tasting Notes and Scores
The dark ruby/garnet-colored 1997 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits a moderately intense bouquet of ashtray, cedar, dried herbs, and red currants. The sweet, ripe attack is followed by a medium-bodied, lush, surprisingly up-front Brunello.
A pleasant and balanced red, with plum and cherry character throughout. Medium-bodied, with medium, polished tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now. 885 cases made. –JS
Rich and full bodied, the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino, is the biggest and most open-knit of the Brunellos between 1994-2001. It exudes notable concentration in its super-ripe fruit with outstanding length, great overall balance and a fine finish. In the glass lovely tertiary notes of white truffle appear, suggesting this wine has entered the early part of its maturity. It should drink well for another decade. Anticipated maturity 2013 - 2016
