Tasting Notes and Scores

Wine Advocate

The 2003 Percarlo is a superb effort in this difficult vintage. It displays balsamic and mineral notes interwoven into a fabric of super- ripe fruit and toasted oak with a powerful personality. 2003 has produced a rich, weighty Percarlo, and the heat of the vintage is especially noticeable in the wine’s alcoholic quality as well as its slightly unrefined tannins. While the 2003 may not have the elegance of the finest vintages, all things considered it is a terrific achievement. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020

Wine Spectator

Lots of new toasted oak, with ripe berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. A bit tight now. Give it time. Best after 2007. 2,930 cases made.

Antonio Galloni

The 2003 Percarlo is one of the few disappointments in this tasting. The aromas have naturally begun to develop and the fruit has started to fade, which exposes the hard tannins typical of the vintage. Readers will want to check in on any remaining bottles of the 2003. I don't see the wine ever coming back into balance. -- Antonio Galloni
