Tasting Notes and Scores
-Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide No 7
The tell-tale blackberry/cassis character is well-displayed in this dark ruby/purple-colored wine. There is excellent ripe fruit, soft tannin, low acidity, and a delicious, easy-going personality. Although it will not make "old bones," it is a ripe, soft, attractive, evolved Bordeaux for consuming over the next 8-9 years.
First tasted in July 2000 where I find it "a little chunky" and a Grand Puy Lacoste suitable for early drinking. Developing beautifully, showing delight pencil-lead and tobacco aromas by Oct-03, a "classic" claret. Still great at the GPL vertical in June 2005. A very attractive cedar, pencil lead nose with excellent definition and focus. The palate has a soft entry, smooth and more velvety than other recent vintages. The Merlot really balances this wine out, makes it a more lush and sensuous GPL than normal. A great drinking 1997.
