The first vintage for this special cuvee, the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance is a beefy, meaty Chateauneuf that's made from 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvedre that was raised all in old foudre. Full-bodied, decadent and downright sexy on the palate, it has ample dark fruits, pepper, bloody meats, porcini and licorice aromas and flavors. It's fully mature, yet has the density and fruit to hold nicely going forward. - 95pts Jeb Dunnuck (eRobertParker.com)

The prodigious 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Renaissance possesses a character not unlike that of the great Chateau Beaucastel. There is obviously a high percentage of Mourvedre in the blend given the tree bark, blueberry, and raspberry-scented perfume. An inky/purple color and the striking perfume are followed by equally provocative flavors of blue and black fruits, earth, truffles, and minerals. Dense and rich, it may have spent time in small barriques as evidenced by a hint of subtle wood. This concentrated 2000 is a brilliant effort, but it does require patience, atypical for this particular vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2017. - 95pts Robert Parker (eRobertParker.com)
