Tasting Notes and Scores
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 23/02/1998 The Chassagne-Montrachet Les Champs-Gains displays loads of stones and white flowers. On the palate, this concentrated, highly extracted, ample, and medium-to-full-bodied wine delivers waves of liquid minerals and traces of oak nuances that linger in its admirable finish. It will be at its best between 2000 and 2006.
The initial hints of age are now upon the soft yet beautifully intense and fresh chardonnay fruit aromas that lead to chiseled, pure and textured middle weight flavors that offer a gorgeous mouth feel and excellent length. I have always preferred Niellon's wines in firmer vintages and this is no exception. In sum, this is a very impressive effort that could be drunk now with pleasure but also that will continue to hold for another decade.
