Sauzet, Etienne - Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrieres 1999
Tasting Notes and Scores
Wine Advocate February, 2001
The 1999 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrieres''s elegant flower and mineral-scented nose is accompanied by a medium-bodied, detailed, focused, feminine, mineral, lemon, and anise-flavored wine with good delineation, and a long, soft finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
Outstanding. Delicate, almost feminine in style as this is built on finesse and elegance rather than power and intensity. This is quite backward and tight and the flavor profile one of grace and class with a combination of citrus and minerals that culminate in a surprisingly long finish, given the weight of the flavors. This is a bit like the 97-pound karate champion that can break 10 boards. Detail and nuance are delivered in spades as the intense flavors seemingly etch themselves into your palate. The only aspect preventing a higher score is the slight lack of mid-palate density. Drink: 2006+
